Tuesday’s report…

Dr. Wright examined xays of Yvonne’s right hip and showed her the results. He said her hip was perfectly aligned and doing exactly as it should! The home health nurse, Leeanne, comes three days each week and is monitoring her progress. The doctor has told her that she can put her full weight on the hip now so she has graduated from the walker but he does want her to use the cane for balance until he sees her again the first of June. Leeann walks with her around the cul-de-sac we live in. The first day it caused some soreness and the second day it was slightly less – rehab said that was normal. So everything is pointing toward success in every way. We continue to thank all of you for your love, your care and your prayers!

Yvonne is home and doing really well. Thanks for all your prayers and concern. She is having no pain at all in her right leg (or left either). We are to see Dr. Wright this Tuesday for her checkup. She may be released from using the walker then. Up to now she has not put her full weight on the right leg so she’s had to use the walker. We’re hoping that he’ll let her put her full weight on the hip now.

This is nothing new to what Tony has already told you but just thought I would let you know that we’re back to the house again and all’s right with the world.

Mom is Home!

Mom finished her stint at West Tennessee Rehabilitation Center this morning and is now home. She’ll continue rehab with Home Health for a while and then she’ll be done for the life of the hip (about 30 years, they tell us).

Mom’s using a walker for now, but she has an appointment with Dr. Wright on Tuesday to review her progress and see if she can set the walker aside. She’s not having ANY discomfort with her hip, so we’re expecting (and praying constantly for) a very good report.

Mom Update: Better every day

Mom’s doing very well at rehab. The staff are very pleased with her progress so far, and they have commented to us on what a great patient she is. Good job Mom!

She’s had quite a few visitors and calls already, and enjoyed them all. Thanks to everyone for your love and continuing prayers.

Mom Update: In Rehab

Mom’s settled in to room 4206 at West Tennessee Rehabilitation Center now. She already did a rehab session and the staff have really been great. We’re so grateful to have her there, where we know she’s going to get exactly the help she needs to recover quickly.

Mom Update: Going to rehab today!

Mom has hit all her recovery milestones so far and is being promoted to rehab today! We’re all very relieved about it, because there was a possibility that, due to the high demand for beds and Mom’s excellent recovery so far, that she would have to do her rehab at home. Now she’ll be in the West Tennessee Rehabilitation Center at JMCGH, where she’ll get the best care and the best rehab there is.

Before she goes, they are giving Mom the two pints of blood that she donated before going in for the hip replacement. She didn’t need them during the surgery, but having them now will help her recover that much quicker.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers, and to Dr. Wright and everyone at JMCGH for all the wonderful work you do!

Mom Update: Recovering well

Mom is getting better every day. The doctor visited again and is very pleased with her progress. She will probably go to rehab by the end of the week.

Mom’s gotten LOTS of visitors and has enjoyed them all. Thanks to everyone for your love and prayers for her and for Dad!

Mom took 20 steps this morning and is doing well on the new hip. We’re all very excited that she’s doing so well. Thanks again for everyone’s prayers!

Mom Update: A good night’s sleep

Mom slept very very well last night. Cheryl stayed with her overnight and tended to her requests, which were very few.

The surgical anesthesia made her very cold and she asked Cheryl for more blankets, so Cheryl put on a total of six more. Note that these are very thin hospital blankets, made to allow for fine adjustment of a patient’s comfort level. In the middle of the night, though, she woke Cheryl up and announced, “I’m burning up!” Her body temperature was back to normal.

She woke up this morning feeling much better, though her hip is still very sore. She’s also back down to four blankets and quite comfortable temperature-wise.

Dr. Wright visited this morning and said that she could start taking her medicine again now, and she would start rehab very soon. All good news!

Mom’s Surgery Update: In a Room Now

Mom’s up in room B468 now. She’s very tired and says she could sleep for a week, and though her hip hurts she’s very glad to have it behind her.

She’ll be in here for three to five days, then there will be two weeks of rehab here before she can continue with home rehab. Please continue to keep her in your prayers during her recovery.
